Here is the Hour of Code Kodable coding maze website https://game.kodable.com/hour-of-code#make-shapes-with-code Show students how to get to the correct part of the website. Click on the purple rectangle button "Play Without Saving", click on the green "Playing at School" button, and then students will choose their grade level. I recommend modeling for the students how to complete the coding challenges on a Smartboard. I actually go through the 5 levels of mazes with the students as a group. Students will use arrows to code the fuzz ball. They must drag and drop the arrows to the coding direction space. I like to show students that they can Test or Run their code as they work on creating it. If there is a mistake in the code, then the arrow can be dragged and placed in the trash. After they complete these mazes they can design their own maze. First, they choose a background, then they design their maze and add the 3 stars to it. Finally they can add the fun extras (trees, gnomes, flamingos, water features, etc. ) They can only have up to 8 different directions in the maze that they create. Press Reset to start that code level to the beginning. Coding is best done in partners. I used this with Kindergarten and I had two students work on one device and take turns. We used hand sanitizer before and after the coding experience. Students can work on their own device or share a device and take turns. Even if students are on their own device, then they can work with a partner to help problem solve and collaborate together.
