This project follows the full Design & Technology cycle: Investigate → Define → Develop → Plan → Create → Protect → Evaluate. Although the product is fictional, the design process is authentic. Pupils are required to: - Identify a market opportunity through research - Generate and refine multiple design ideas - Produce annotated technical drawings (including cross-section views) - Write a sequenced making plan - Create a structural prototype using air-dry clay - Document iterative changes during construction - Develop branding and packaging for a defined target audience - Apply intellectual property concepts (patent or trademark) - Reflect on problem-solving and design decisions Focus during assessment: - Evidence of iteration and adaptation - Quality and clarity of design drawings - Structural thinking in cross-sections - Independence in problem solving - Ability to explain design choices Encourage pupils to modify their designs if needed — adaptation is part of strong DT practice.
