Provide appropriate research sources or websites for your students to use in these activities. Scaffolding for Different Grade Levels: To make this activity accessible and engaging for students from K-8th grade, consider the following scaffolding suggestions: Kindergarten to 2nd Grade Encourage students to use simple language, drawings, and pictures to share their findings. They can draw an element of the heritage, such as a traditional costume, a festival, or an animal. You may want to pre-select a few cultural topics to guide them. 3rd to 5th Grade Guide students to write a few sentences or use bullet points to answer each question. They can also include illustrations or symbols related to the culture they’re researching. This age group can begin to consider the "why" behind traditions, such as why certain foods are popular or why specific festivals are celebrated. 6th to 8th Grade Encourage students to provide more detailed responses, writing short paragraphs to answer each question. They can explore additional aspects of the culture, such as historical influences or famous figures. This is also a great opportunity to introduce them to credible sources and guide them on how to conduct respectful and thoughtful research. By engaging in this activity, students will develop a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and learn to respect and celebrate the differences that make each heritage unique. This activity also helps promote empathy and curiosity as students share and reflect on various cultural perspectives.
