Sort the Mail - Rhyming

Grades: Kindergarten, PK-TK

Student Instructions

1. Click on the add button. 2. Find the words that rhyme with the picture on each mailbag. 3. Use the move tool to put them in the correct bag. 4. Say the rhyming words in each group. 5. Click on the green check to add to your journal. Simplify: * Enlarge each picture (by dragging a corner dot) for easier viewing. * You say the names of each picture, emphasizing the rhyme at the end so it's easier to hear and recognize the similarities. * If your child is not ready to work on rhyming, use this as a vocabulary exercise, have them name the pictures and put them in whichever bag they choose. Extend: * See if your child can think of any other words that go in the rhyming sets. (nail, fan, blocks, etc.) Give them a choice if needed. Example: "Which word rhymes with mail, nail or blue?" * Have your child draw a picture of the new word they think of on or near the mail bag where it belongs. * Be sure to have your child practice writing their name on this and all activities they submit. Learning Potentials: ELA 3 yr.2.9: With prompting and support, explore rhyming words in familiar songs/ books. ELA 4 yr.2.9: Recognize rhyming words in familiar songs/books (for example, provide rhyming words, show a thumbs up if the words rhyme or thumbs down if the words do not rhyme). PE 3 yr.1.5: With prompting and support, develop small muscle control by making lines, circles, and scribbles with writing tools (for example, chalk, crayons, paint, markers, digital tools). PE 4 yr.1.4: Demonstrate wrist, hand, and finger control (for example, screw on and off lids, button, zip, push an object, use scissors, create art). Or control a computer mouse.
