NOTICE AND NOTE - CONTRASTS and CONTRADICTIONS (PRESTO)

Grades: 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 5th Grade
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

What are CONTRASTS and CONTRADICTIONS ? Contrasts and contradictions happen when you NOTICE that a character says or does something that’s the opposite (CONTRADICTS) what they have been doing… Why is the character doing that? The answers may help you make a PREDICTION about what will happen next… or help you make an INFERENCE about the PLOT or the CONFLICT of the story. 1. Watch the animated short movie, PRESTO. What are the contrasts and contradictions? Why is the character changing his or her behavior? What do you think might happen next? 2. Write your response in the note attached to this lesson. 3. Don't forget to explain your thoughts and thinking. 4. Remember to restate the questions and give specific examples and evidence from the video. Challenge: Can you find other examples of the signposts in the video? Please share.
