Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity gives students practice identifying the five themes of geography (Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, Region) with short tasks and partner work. Use the matching page and multiple-choice/short-answer pages to check individual understanding. For the partner task, students will need simple supplies: paper, pencils, and a device to take a photo or record voice if possible. No maps beyond a classroom map are required, but a classroom or school map can enrich examples. For open-ended items (the real-world connection and the partner share), high-quality answers: clearly name which theme(s) apply, give one or two specific details that show why (for example: “Location — my house is at 123 Oak St.” OR “Human-environment interaction — we plant trees to reduce heat”), and include an action or example (drawing, photo, or a short spoken explanation). Teachers may grade these manually as correct (shows understanding) or incorrect (missing or confused theme). Look for correct theme naming and a relevant, specific reason or example.
