This activity assesses students' understanding of algorithms (step-by-step instructions) and basic directional commands (turn left, turn right). Use the assessment questions to check factual knowledge and the open-ended tasks to see how students sequence steps and explain reasoning. Prepare a simple floor grid or printed character images and arrow pictures for students to practice moving a character physically before answering. For the multimedia prompt, ensure devices can record short voice or video clips. Qualities of a high-quality paragraph answer: student clearly names an algorithm, lists steps in the correct order, and explains why order matters (example: steps lead the character to the correct place). Qualities of a high-quality multimedia response: student records a short clip showing steps or drawing arrows, uses directional words (left/right/forward), and demonstrates the steps in the correct sequence. Teachers can mark open-ended responses as correct or incorrect based on whether the student shows a correct sequence and correct use of left/right directions.
