Student Instructions

What does it mean by AGAIN and AGAIN? AGAIN and AGAIN happens when you notice a word, phrase, object, or situation mentioned over and over. Note it and Ask yourself: Why does this keep showing up? The answers may tell you about the THEME and CONFLICT of the story… Or they might FORESHADOW what will happen later in the story. 1. Watch the animated short movie, PAPERMAN. What keeps happening over and over? Why does this keep showing up? What is the theme or conflict? Why is this important? 2. Write your response in the note attached to this lesson. 3. Don't forget to explain your thoughts and thinking. 4. Remember to restate the questions and give specific examples and evidence from the video. Challenge: Can you find other examples of the signposts in the video? Please share.

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This video has an example of the AGAIN and AGAIN Signpost. Use the video when teaching students the Notice and Note Signposts to help them become a more active reader. You could also use this lesson or the lesson ideas when teaching personal narratives or fiction writing. Encourage your students to include a character that provides advice or words of the wiser to the main character in their own writing.
