seesaw Welcome to the building of Geometrocity! seesaw Click the link to see the aim of the final outcome from a Seesaw post I did previously: https://app.seesaw.me/#/item/item.ac8318cf-4665-4cc3-9af0-404fcf9d32b3/share/sSobJOy3REazB5wjKejMug Photos have also been added to the example (after the tables) for this activity with some clear images of what can be achieved! This project will develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills through project-based learning. This project is to be done individually, but children working in a class can plan together so their maps link together better. Use the following brilliantly designed Prezi presentation by Erin Brasington https://prezi.com/x1tljig6st0u/geometrocity/?webgl=0 PHASE TWO: Design & Build For this phase, you need a squared piece of A4 paper (1cm squares). On slide 11 of the Prezi, there are some instructions of how to design and build your section of the Geometrocity. On slide 12 of the Prezi, it explains the first page int he example. You have to choose an area of the city you want to build (e.g. Downtown, park, suburbs, etc.) and this will dictate what type of buildings you end up having. Once you have chosen your area, you need to plan where your roads and buildings will go on your squares. It is a good idea to write neatly and label carefully. Upload your plan to Seesaw seesaw using the add response button add then take a photo of you finished piece photo to submit to the activity :-) like It is VITAL that if you want your map to match up to your friends, then your roads MUST leave the page in the same places, so check that you have done this and ask for help if you need it like Good luck!

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

*** MUST READ THIS *** If this task is being completed in school, it is vital if you want to make the students maps join together, you need to make sure their roads leave the squared paper in the same place. To achieve this you have three options: 1. Draw all the lines on yourself on different pieces of squared paper (VERY time consuming!) 2. Make one yourself and photocopy the squared paper to GUARANTEE the lines are in the same place (less environmentally friendly but much less time consuming) 3. Give very specific instructions to each child about where to draw the lines on their piece of paper. DO THIS IN PENCIL IN CASE THEY DO IT WRONG! (e.g. hold it landscape, count in 15 squares, draw a black line for two squares, rotate you page clock wise, start in the top left of the page, count in 10 squares, draw a black line for two squares, rotate you page clock wise, start in the top left of the page, count in 15 squares, draw a black line for two squares, rotate you page clock wise, start in the top left of the page, count in 10 squares, draw a black line for two squares - THESE INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD WORK!) This option requires capable children or adult support for some. Finally, I would get children to check that their maps will match up by putting them together and checking that it will go from one to the next when you build the city. Good luck!
