Student Instructions

Representation is the idea, the belief or the message that a composer tries to convey to us through their text. Everything in their text is deliberately there to make us believe their point of view and they can use images or words to try and shape our opinions. What you must understand is that everyone’s belief can be different. Two people can see the same event and yet tell a very different version of what happened because they look at things in different ways. What you need to consider when you look at a text is: • What is being represented? (What are the composer’s ideas?) • How is it being represented? (What techniques are they using to persuade us?) • What is the purpose of the text? (Why does the composer want us to believe them?) In this unit of work you are going to examine different representations of the Environment. You will be looking at the different messages composers are trying to convey about the environment and we will be looking at the different techniques they use to convey their ideas. We will be looking at representation through a variety of different types of texts.
