Using Equivalent Ratios to Create Circle Graphs

Grades: 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 5th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

This activity is designed to give you experience using equivalent ratios. You will create circle graphs to display data from the class survey. You should use equivalent ratios to decide the angle measurements for your circle graphs. Please complete your work as neatly as possible. Be sure to show your math work. 1st - Tap the link to take the survey. 2nd - Tap the link to look at the class results of the survey. 3rd - For each page, choose a survey question and record the data on the chart. 4th - Set up equivalent ratios (part-to-whole) to find the degrees for each part of your circle graph. 5th - Choose a color for each survey answer and label it in the key. 6th - Tap move to move the protractor and measure your angles. 7th - Repeat the process for a new data set. You will create four different circle graphs from four different data sets. 8th - Tap check to submit your finished work. If you complete the activity on paper, tap addpage to add a blank page. Then tap photo to take a clear picture of your work. You can delete the unused pages before submitting your work. Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

You can make a copy of the survey I use here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1K69IjN6-YlXfUaV4dG8tckH4jrLVRc0lJVTxr_mWqI8/copy or you can create your own. After creating a Google Form for your students, add the link to the first page where it says "Take Survey". Create a Google Sheet for the results and link that to "Survey Results". Students should use part-to-whole ratios to decide the angle measurement for their circle graphs. (Votes/Voters = Degrees/360.
