Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

Page 1- Students watch the video to be introduced to Sequencing Key Words. (Writers use key words to inform the reader that a new stage, or step, in the sequence is being introduced. The key words help to make our writing clear, and they give the reader a cue that something new is happening. ) Page 2- Students look at the life cycle diagram and use the microphone to explain everything they know about the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly, using details and descriptive words. Page 3- Students watch a short video clip that demonstrates each stage in the butterfly life cycle. The task is to listen carefully for any new words that can be added to the word back on page 3, after watching the video. Page 4- Students add 1-3 new vocabulary words to the key word list. Page 5- Students listen to an audio example of the lifecycle of a Monarch butterfly. They then write a paragraph using sequence words, details, and descriptive words.
