Student Instructions

Conjunctions are words that we can use to connect sentences and clauses together. Conjunctions make our sentences more complex and interesting. You know lots of coordinating conjunctions already. Coordinating conjunctions connect small clauses together to make bigger sentences. You might remember them as FANBOYS. For And Nor But Or Yet So You can watch this video to remind you of how to use coordinating conjunctions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imwtcmvk668 Subordinating conjunctions connect clauses together to make sentences. These clauses are split into 2 parts, the main clause (independent clause) and the subordinate clause (dependant clause). A main clause is a complete sentence and makes sense on its own. A subordinate clause is not a complete sentence and does not make sense on its own. For example. The cat is yellow. (This is a main clause and makes sense on its own) With pink stripes. (This is a subordinating clause and does not make sense on its own) The cat is yellow with pink stripes. (This sentence makes sense! The conjunction is WITH) This video will help you understand how to use them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT1HhMcB8aw Correlative conjunctions are conjunctions that show things that are linked in a sentence. For example. Either + Or (EITHER the cat has eaten his food OR the dog ate it.) Neither + Nor (NEITHER the cat ate the food NOR did the dog.) Both + And (BOTH the cat AND the dog are very hungry now.) This video will help you understand how to use them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R74Ly00UygU Your task is to complete the worksheet using conjunctions. There is a word bank of conjunctions to help you. Due Friday 24th April at 9am.
