Introduce students to Book, Head, Heart Reflection Framework- a critical thinking comprehension strategy from Disrupting Thinking by Kylene Beers & Robert E. Probst. Similar to a KWL chart (know, want to know, learned), readers think about what is literally presented in the book/text, what is in their head as they are reading, and what is in their heart while reading and after they have read the book/text. Model and scaffold this strategy with students before asking them to use it independently.
