Student Instructions
Stop and smell the spices! For this sensory game, players use smell to savor the moment. With the sense of sight temporarily switched off by a blindfold, the other senses are heightened, focusing the player’s attention even more. HOW TO PLAY: 1. Pick 3-4 spices out of a cabinet. 2. Pick who will be the first guesser, and blindfold the guesser. (If you don't have someone else to play with that's okay! Blindfold yourself!) 4. Place the spices within reach, and the blindfolded player will pick a spice bottle. 5. The guesser will take a deep breath, between each sniff of a spice. When smelling, take as long as you need to guess, does it smell familiar? What does it remind you of? 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all spices have been sniffed. 7. Switch roles with your partner and repeat! 8. When ready, tell us how this game went by completing your Mindful Journal page. To do so, click and use the , , and/or drawing tools to share your response!
This is an excellent sensory activity to help students tune into their sense of smell. If assigning to your students, be sure to remind them not to use anything too spicy like cayenne pepper for example. [as of 2.3.21]
